I love food shows…I love food! Food shows are great places to stoke the creative fires for your cafe ‘s and coffee areas. Here are a few pictures from a show I just attended.
When attending a food show here are a couple of things to keep in mind:
1. Pace your self
There’s a lot to eat and almost all of it looks good. But remember your purpose for being there and don’t get full on a bunch of stuff that you know you can never carry and be to full to taste the things that matter for you.
2. Keep your eyes open for great displays
One of the neat things that I found at this food show was an idea to package a banana and a yogurt in clear baggie with printed price sticker on it. That just made sense to me so I am going to adapt it for my cafe. Also keep your eyes open for great display ideas. Many of the vendors at these shows put a lot of time and effort into their displays and color combinations so take note. By the way some of the displays that you see in vendor booths may be available to you if you agree to carry the product. Ask to see if that’s the case.
3. Be Realistic
There are so many things that I see at food shows that I would like to do. But, If I am being realistic, with a team that is 95% volunteer based, some things are just not executable (handmade biscuits, deep fried turnovers). Therefore good ideas have to be laid aside for the great ideas that fit what you can do without straining your team.
4. Enjoy it!
Don’t try to rush through the show. Take your time and enjoy it!
Check your local food providers or convention center event schedules to find food shows coming to your area.
Later I’ll share with you some of the things I picked up for my cafe!
Gustare!
